Job Description

Avenue Hospital was founded in 1995 for the purpose of managing the outpatient department at the Hospital, and to extend medical services to corporate clientele through an innovative concept of Managed Healthcare.

Purpose

Provide professional and compassionate nursing care and coordinate the delivery of Emergency treatment, by ensuring their review and treatment as per the Hospital protocols, and nursing standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to Emergency alerts/hospital codes and rapid responses when needed.
  • Providing excellent holistic nursing care to the emergency patients as noted below.
    • Accurate documentation of all charts, checklists, forms, and relevant care bundles
    • Performing pressure area care for patients at risk including regular turning
    • Timely medications administration and safety compliance
    • Ensure all patients belongings are handled in a safe manner according to policy.
    • Listening to any patients/family complaints and ensuring they are addressed promptly.
  • Records patients’ current vital signs and provides care to emergency patients.
  • Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Performs triage, while considering both physical and psycho-social elements
  • Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol.
  • Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatically.
  • Works directly under physicians, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing, and treatments.
  • Prepares and administers prescribed medications as per policy including IVI.
  • Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications.
  • Cleans and bandages wounds for trauma patients.
  • Championing continual quality improvement with timely incident reporting
  • Maintaining and observing infection control measures for staff and patient’s wellbeing.
  • Upholding statutory regulations as required by nursing profession and Kenyan laws.
  • Safeguarding all Hospital’s and patients’ confidential information and property.
  • Providing accurate documentation and proper record keeping of patients’ treatment.
  • Utilizing the available resources effectively for quality service delivery, profitability, and cost containment.
  • Performing a comprehensive initial patient assessment to including physical examination and re-assessments at every shift/ when necessary

Person Specification

  • BSc in Nursing/Higher Diploma in Accident & Emergency Nursing.
  • 3 years’ experience
  • Updated BLS/ACLS certificate
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Current annual nurse practice license issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Attention to detail
