Job Description

Dandelion Africa reduces maternal and child mortality by providing quality and accessible healthcare to communities in hard to reach rural areas. We do this through a medical facility, our backpack nurses who go door-to-door and a network of over 100 unpaid community health volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manage day-to-day financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with established accounting principles and guidelines.
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Conduct financial analysis and variance analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in the budgeting process by providing financial data and analysis to support budget development and monitoring.
  • Maintain financial records and documentation in compliance with statutory requirements and organizational policies.
  • Prepare and submit statutory tax returns, including PAYE, and other regulatory filings, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and support external auditors during annual audits.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, and ensure timely reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to management to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Develop and implement financial controls and procedures to safeguard assets and minimize financial risks.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and regulations that may impact the organization.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance and support on project budgets and expenditures.
  • Participate in internal meetings and training sessions to share financial information and best practices with colleagues.
  • Any other duties as maybe assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant, CPA(K)
  • Proven experience working as an accountant or in a similar financial role, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-finance staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and results-oriented approach to work.
  • Familiarity with Kenyan tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in preparing and aanalysingfinancial statements and reports.
  • High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism in handling confidential financial information.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in the NHIF systems will be an added advantage
  • Willingness to work full-time in an extremely rural setting.
