Job Description

INUKA Kenya Trust is a grassroots social movement founded in 2009. It is a non-profit organisation dedicated to inspiring Kenyans at every level to take charge of improving their own lives. INUKA believes that it is up to Kenyans to transform Kenya and Kenyan problems must be met with Kenyan solutions.

About the Role

Prepares and provides financial information and reports to the various stakeholders of Inuka Africa as is appropriate. Takes full responsibility for the accuracy and quality of institutional financial records.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting and Recording

  • Full responsibility for the production of monthly management accounts and other financial reports & consolidated Financial Statement
  • Producing on time monthly and yearly financial reports for Branches – Trial Balances, Income Statements, Balance Sheets and cash flow Statement for branches.
  • Statutory processing & reporting.
  • Preparation of monthly performance reports.
  • Preparation and review of all monthly and quarterly reports to the Board, funders, regulators, etc.
  • Reviewing, analyze & report on the company’s financial health and liquidity.
  • Summarize current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement and other reports.
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results.
  • Producing reports for external stakeholders.
  • Handle monthly, quarterly and annual closings.
  • Consolidation and reporting to senior management
  • Consolidation of overall annual budget of the institution with input from various departments
  • In consultation with the HOF, Preparation of 5 years financial plan / forecast together with preparation of budget forecasts
  • Follow up on budget implementation and limits as it relates to each department. Investigates variances between budget and actual.

Monitoring, Processing & Control

  • Tracking payments to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Computation & processing tax payments and returns.
  • Performs bank reconciliations
  • Maintains various schedules such as fixed assets, prepayments etc.
  • Work with external auditor to facilitate the audit process
  • Perform financial control functions.
  • Develop and manage liquidity management tools.
  • Manage balance sheets and profit/loss statements.
  • Audit financial transactions and documents
  • Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups, when necessary, Comply with financial policies and regulations.
  • Prepare asset, liability and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information. Frequent interaction with branch administrators and managers, senior management, the Board Finance Committee, funders and investors (as appropriate).

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Commerce related courses with (Accounting) option, CPA K
  • 3-5 years+ work experience, preferably in microfinance/banking field.
  • Experience working in a microfinance/banking is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with accounting packages/software.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Strong analytical and planning skills
