Job Description

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is an independent National Human Rights Institution created by Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and established by the Government of Kenya through an Act of Parliament (the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act, 2011) and under the United Nations Paris Principles

Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for provision of accounting support to the Finance Department in the preparation of the various finance reports, accounts and reconciliation in compliance with Public Finance Accounts Standards and the achievements of objectives of the Finance and Accounts unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vouching of field and regional offices’ imprests to ensure that the expenditures are compliant to the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Expensing of staff payments in Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) system and ensuring that they are properly coded.
  • Expensing of all staff field and regional offices’ operational imprests  in IFMIS and ensuring that they are properly coded.
  • Posting of all Receipts & Payments in the SAGE Accounting system.
  • Ensuring that budgets and budget reviews are posted in the IFMIS system.
  • Capturing of exchequers in IFMIS System.
  • Approval of payment on CBK Internet Banking platform.
  • Monitoring of the organization’s budget through the Grant Management System.
  • Re-alignment of the organization’s budget on the Grant Management System.
  • Invoicing transactions in SAGE and IFMIS systems.
  • Clearance of Encumbrances from the IFMIS system.

Key Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounts or an equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Part II of Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A) (K) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
  • At least one (1) year of relevant service in a comparable position from a reputable organization.
  • Knowledge of professional accounting standards including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of financial systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable laws and legislations.
  • Good communication, listening and client management skills.
  • Computer literacy including excellent Microsoft Office tools skills and accounting packages.
  • Meet the requirement of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
