Job Description

Mhasibu Housing was registered under the Companies Act (Cap.486), laws of Kenya in April, 2009. The company is a fully owned subsidiary of Mhasibu Sacco Society Limited (hereinafter MSSL/Sacco). MHCL was established to enable Sacco members to acquire affordable housing solutions by pooling resources and benefiting economies of scale. Due to its success, especially in reducing the cost of land, members of the public were attracted by its products and at the moment MHCL serves members of the Sacco and members of the public who willingly choose to participate in MHCL projects. MSSL is a Sacco for the accountants. The Sacco was established by the institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) in 1986. MSSL is 30 years old and has over 11,000 active members.

Accountant

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits, preparing payroll, managing supplier and customer accounts, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. This role requires excellent technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Experience in real estate or project accounting will be a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately post daily sales invoices into the system and update customer payment plans.
  • Reconcile all customer accounts in collaboration with the Customer Service department.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by preparing relevant schedules and documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain up-to-date financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Process payroll, sales commissions, directors’ and staff allowances in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review supporting documents for supplier payments, process payments, and reconcile supplier accounts.
  • Maintain and regularly update the fixed asset register, ensuring all company assets are adequately insured.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of internal financial controls and standard operating procedures.
  • Support debt collection processes and provide updates on outstanding receivables.
  • Ensure proper filing and safeguarding of accounting records for easy retrieval.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts, including variance analysis.
  • Participate in the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets.
  •  Prepare and file statutory returns including PAYE, VAT, NHIF, NSSF, and corporate taxes in line with set deadlines.
  • Assist in performing monthly bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies.
  • Generate ad hoc financial and management reports as requested by management.
  • Undertake any other related duties as may be assigned by the line manager from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Commerce, Accounting or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Professional Accountancy qualification CPA(K)
  • Membership with a professional body ICPAK in good standing is an added advantage
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in accounting and finance.
  • Experience in project accounting and/or real estate industry will be an added advantage.
