Accountant

Role Description

This is a full-time role for an Accountant, located in Nairobi County, Kenya, with allocation for some remote work. The Accountant will be responsible for managing financial transactions, preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and performing audits. Daily tasks include budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. The Accountant will also handle accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and tax preparation.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate general ledger entries
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Reconcile bank statements and other accounts regularly
  • Support in the preparation of management reports and analysis

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process supplier invoices, purchase orders, and expense claims
  • Issue and track client invoices; follow up on overdue accounts
  • Manage petty cash and reimbursements
  • Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitoring actual performance against budgets
  • Highlight variances and support cost control measures

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Ensure compliance with Kenyan tax laws (VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, etc.)
  • Prepare necessary schedules and documentation for audits
  • Keep abreast of changes in accounting regulations and taxation requirements

Process Improvement & Support

  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including HR, Operations, and Marketing.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience: 3–5 years of accounting experience (agency or SME background is an added advantage) and a strong understanding of Kenyan tax laws
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software, Advanced MS Excel skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
