Actuarial Life Manager

In more detail, the areas of responsibility include:

  • Lead and manage actuarial consulting engagements for life insurance clients across Africa.
  • Oversee IFRS 17 implementation projects, capital modeling, and actuarial valuation work.
  • Provide technical actuarial expertise on finance transformation projects.
  • Support clients in mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions by performing actuarial due diligence.
  • Assist insurers with risk and capital management, regulatory compliance, and pricing strategies.
  • Provide actuarial support for audit engagements, working closely with auditors to validate actuarial models and assumptions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and delivering tailored solutions.
  • Supervise and mentor junior actuarial staff, fostering professional growth and technical development.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by assisting with proposals, marketing activities, and thought leadership initiatives.

Experience and personal qualities

  • Experience: Over 8 years of actuarial experience in life insurance, with exposure to consulting.
  • Qualifications: part qualified / fully qualified actuary. Being a fully qualified actuary is not mandatory, but candidates must demonstrate strong actuarial expertise and technical knowledge.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth understanding of IFRS 17, Solvency regulations, capital modelling, reserving, and risk management.
  • Consulting Experience: Prior experience in an actuarial consulting environment is highly preferred.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to lead and manage multiple actuarial projects simultaneously.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex actuarial concepts to clients and stakeholders.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Experience in leading teams and mentoring junior actuarial staff.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to understand client needs, develop strategic solutions, and contribute to business development efforts.
