Job Description

The Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation was established through a Legal Gazette Notice No. 265 of 1986 as a State Corporation with the aim of promoting forest conservation by providing buffer zones of tea and assorted tree species to check against human encroachment into the forestland.

Job Specification

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail Assisting in:

  • Implementing all tea agronomic activities- plucking, weeding, pruning, tipping, fertilizer application;
  • Preparing nurseries (seedlings) for expansion programs of both tea and forest;
  • Timely plucking, weighing and delivery of green leaf to the factories as per set quality standards and minimizing green leaf losses in the field and buying centres;
  • Infilling and consolidation of any gaps within the block;
  • Requisitioning required material for the crop and forest maintenance as per approved procedures;
  • Maintaining trees in the areas identified as per approved policies and procedures;
  • Preparing timely and accurate reports and distributing to appropriate users;
  • Maintaining accurate records (Task book, ledgers, plucking round planner and compartment registers) as per approved procedures;
  • Effective and efficient utilization of labour and inputs as per provided schedules and guidelines;
  • Liaising with the Zone Manager on mobilizing labour required for maintenance of tea fields and forest plantations;
  • Allocating duties to workers and managing their welfare;
  • Ensuring compliance with the environmental, Health and safety measures and regulations;
  • Preparing weekly/monthly work plans and associated budgets and ensuring effective control;
  • Preparing the information on master roll for general workers, casuals and other expenses in the farm; and managing of 5-10 hectares of tea/tree farms/blocks to meet expected goals and output per hectare/bush in terms of quality and quantity.

Person Specifications

  • For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:
  • Certificate in any of the following fields: Agriculture, Horticulture, Agribusiness, Agricultural economics or any equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution; and
  • Proficiency in computer application skills.
