The role is responsible for leading all forensic investigations in a fair and independent manner as well as enhancing the overall awareness of fraud risks in Airtel Africa. He/ She has the overriding mandate to undertake unhindered investigations into allegations of corruption, fraud and misconduct or suspicions thereof. The role also drives initiatives for improvement of fraud risk management, internal controls, compliance and corporate governance across the organization as well as provide assurance to the Airtel Africa Leadership Team and the Bharti Board Audit Committee on compliance to laid down preventive measures to proactively reduce the potential for misconduct, fraud or corruption within Airtel Africa.


The role entails working closely with the Fraud Investigation service provider to drive quality execution of investigation request. It also entails driving governance, controls and compliance within all the Functions in the 15 OpCos through continuous engagement with the OpCo MD, ECs and Governance Managers, in addition to the Airtel Africa Leadership Team at Africa HQ.

Level of Engagement/Stakeholders:

  • Local Board Audit Committees
  • Airtel Africa HQ : Directors and Functional Chiefs (CCO, CFO, CSCO, CTO, CIO, CHRO, CLO, CRO)
  • OpCos : MD and ECs members
  • Investigation Partners (Directors)


Timely completion of investigations into financial improprieties as per Work Plan approved by the Director, Internal Assurance

Drive Fraud Risk Management.

Improve the Internal Control Environment through active engagement with Senior Management, ie the MD and the EC across the OpCos and the Airtel Africa Leadership Team.

Reporting to the Board Audit Committee – Bharti Airtel & Local OpCo Audit Committees (where applicable)

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Forensic investigation experience
  • Fraud risk management experience
  • Stakeholder and risk management experience
  • High level of integrity
  • Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to write, present and clearly defend findings and recommendations of investigations
  • Ability to communicate and write effectively in English and/or French, with a good working knowledge of the other language
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to develop trust and demonstrate fairness
  • Capacity to influence and win the confidence of difficult witnesses
  • Strong inter-personal skills and the ability to work in a team
  • Ability to interact and communicate at the highest level of the Organization ( Board Audit Committee, OpCo MD &  ECs members)
  • Excellent leadership skills. Ability to manage a team (in house and partner teams)
  • Goal oriented, focused, energetic, and enthusiastic
