Job Description

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) was established on 24th October 2002 by the Civil Aviation (Amendment) Act, 2002 with the primary functions towards; Regulation and oversight of Aviation Safety & Security; Economic regulation of Air Services and development of Civil Aviation; Provision of Air Navigation Services, and Training of Aviation personnel KCAA; as guided by the provisions of the convention on international civil aviation, related ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), the Kenya Civil Aviation Act, 2013 and the civil aviation regulations.

AIRWORTHINESS INSPECTOR – KCAA SCALE 7 (REF: ASSR/AW/20/24) – (4 POSTS)

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that aviation organizations and engineers comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Reporting any noted non-compliance and safety gaps to the supervisor.
  • Assisting in investigations, preparation of surveillance reports, and enforcement of regulations.
  • Assisting in reviewing or evaluation of technical manuals and other documents associated with certification requirements of Maintenance organizations and air operators for accuracy and compliance with Civil Aviation Regulations and making appropriate recommendations to the immediate supervisor.
  • Assisting in performing surveillance duties in conformance with the surveillance manual.
  • Assisting in taking appropriate corrective action for safety gaps noted and making recommendations to the supervisor.

Person Specifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
  • Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Possess Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Licenses (AMEL) in any of the following categories:
    • ‘A’ – Aeroplane & ‘C’ – Gas turbine Engines (Category B1.1)
    • ‘A’ – Aeroplane & ‘C’ Piston Engines (Category B1.2)
    • ‘A’ & ‘C’ Rotorcraft Gas Turbined Engines (Category B1.3)
    • ‘A’ & ‘C’ Rotorcraft Piston (Category B1.4)
    • Avionics (any two endorsements in the following categories; ‘X’ (Electricals, Instruments and Automatic Pilots) and ‘R’ – Radio)
  • Have at least three Aircraft type courses or three Aircraft type ratings in any of the categories in (iii) above.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in Aircraft maintenance in an Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO).
  • Knowledgeable in and familiar with the problems of operating Transport aircraft.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Computer applications.
