Job Description

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is autonomous road agency, responsible for the management, development, rehabilitation and maintenance of international trunk roads linking centres of international importance and crossing international boundaries or terminating at international ports(Class A road), national trunk roads linking internationally important centres (Class B roads), and primarily roads linking provicially important centres to each other or two higher-classroads (Class C roads).

Job Purpose

The job holder is responsible for ensuring preparation and implementation of environmental and social strategies and plans affecting road works, environmental laws compliance in all roadwork projects; environmental and social Impact Studies are done and NEMA licenses issued for all road works.

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Formulating strategies for achievement of social provision objectives;
  • Ensuring proper management and rational utilization of resources on a sustainable basis;
  • Overseeing collecting, collating, storing and dissemination of social research findings;
  • Monitoring, assessing, evaluating the impact of development activities on the social issues and advising on corrective measures where appropriate;
  • Overseeing social impact studies of new projects; and
  • Coordinating monitoring and evaluation of road projects and ensuring social concerns are properly addressed.

Job Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in relevant work and at least three (3) years in a supervisory role in the Public Service or in the Private Sector;
  • Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Sociology, Anthropology, social work, community development or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Bachelor’s Degrees in any of the following disciplines: Sociology, Anthropology, social work, community development or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Gold Membership with Kenya Institute of Social Works or a relevant professional body;
  • Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks
  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution; and
  • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
