Job Description

Kiambu County is one of the 47 counties in the Republic of Kenya. It is located in the central region and covers a total area of 2,543.5 Km2 with 476.3 Km2under forest cover according to the 2009 Kenya Population and Housing Census. Kiambu County borders.

Assistant Engineer 1 (County Transport Manager)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the directorate in planning, management and regulation of the public transport sector in accordance with the provisions of County and National Traffic and road safety laws;
  • Assist in the planning and development of sustainable urban transport system;
  • Identify, design and prepare tender documents for all county transport infrastructure.
  • Assist in management of busparks and parking areas
  • Attend meetings and provide reports to the supervisor on a regular basis regarding the progress of individual projects under their responsibilities;
  • Participate in the promotion of non-motorized transport system through construction of footpaths and public sensitization of walking and cycle riding;
  • Assist in the preparation and development of the Directorate’s annual procurement plan;
  • Participate in the preparation and development of the Directorate’s strategic plan;
  • Supervise construction works and project management;
  • Assist in coordinating the activities of agencies and organizations dealing in matters relating to road safety;
  • Ensure smooth traffic Control and safety in urban and County roads;
  • Assist in the collection, maintenance and update traffic data for future planning;
  • Offer support in project Administration and Contract management;

Requirements of appointment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in either Automotive or Mechanical or any other relevant and equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
  • Been registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya;
  • Current valid annual practicing license from the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya;
  • Corporate Membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results;
