Job Description

The promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, introduced the devolved system of Government which resulted to the formation of the 47 Counties across the Country, Kakamega County being among them. Kakamega County is located in the western region of the country with an area of 3,051.3 square kilometers and an estimated population of 2,079,669 and density of 682. Administratively, it is divided into twelve sub counties, sixty wards, one hundred and eighty seven Village Units and four hundred Community Administrative Areas. Politically, it comprises of twelve constituencies and sixty wards. The climate in this region is very conducive for many activities including crop and animal production. Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry and training grade for this cadre.  An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer and experienced officer.  Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Receiving and documenting patients at hospital reception;
  • Registering and booking appointment for patients to clinics and consultants;
  • Storing and retrieving medical records documents;
  • Preparing clinics;
  • Updating bed bureau;
  • Editing of patient case records;
  • Gathering data from different sources;
  • Capturing data from service pints;
  • Maintaining record safety and confidentiality;
  • Storing and retrieving patient master index;
  • Directing patients to relevant clinics;
  • Scheduling of patients to the consultants and speciality clinics;
  • Assigning codes to diseases and surgical procedures according to the international classification of diseases procedures in medicine; and
  • Preparing Health records and reports.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

  • Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology from a recognized institution; and
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution
