Job Description

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) was established by an Act of Parliament, Chapter 469 of the laws of Kenya , which became effective on 1st July 1995 . The Authority is charged with the responsibility of collecting revenue on behalf of the Government of Kenya. A Board of Directors, consisting of both public and private sector experts, makes policy decisions to be implemented by KRA Management. The Chairman of the Board is appointed by the President of the Republic of Kenya . The Chief Executive of the Authority is the Commissioner General who is appointed by the Minister for Finance. PURPOSE OF KRA Assessment , Collection, Administration and Enforcement of laws relating to revenue.

Job Purpose

Issuance of objection decisions for cases emanating from Customs & Border Control Department and interpretation and application of the relevant tax laws in the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004 and other supporting legislations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review of objections emanating from Customs & Border Control Department
  • Collect information and participate in consultative meetings with the assessing department and the taxpayers
  • Prepare reports on the findings following the review of the documents provided
  • Consistent interpretation and uniform application of relevant tax laws as stipulated in the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004.
  • Presentation of approved findings and recommendations to the Objections Resolution Committee
  • Management of performance, audit, QMS, integrity and risk programmes

Requirements

Academic qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Public Policy, Finance, Economics, Commerce or related field from a recognized University;

Professional qualification

  • A professional qualification in any relevant discipline is an added

Work experience

  • Minimum of four (4) years of service in Customs administration with at least one (1) year in a Supervisory role;
  • Experience in customs post clearance audit and dispute resolution operations is an added advantage.
