Job Description

Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) is the government parastatal whose responsibility is to assure the quality of agricultural inputs and produce to prevent adverse impact on the economy, the environment and human health.

Duties and responsibilities: – 

  • Undertaking field inspections and audits for seed certification and market compliance;
  • Undertaking border inspection of seeds, plants, plant products and other regulated articles for compliance to import and export requirements;
  • Support in field survey activities and quarantine control;
  • Advice clients on market requirements, grading and certification of plant produce;
  • Manage documentation of databases related to phytosanitary and plant bio-security;
  • Support farmer advisory services and seed certification through stakeholder awareness meetings;
  • Support in undertaking post certification survey and post control activities;
  • Support in maintenance of accreditation and Quality Management Systems (QMS);
  • Assisting in data collection during national performance trials and Distinctness Uniformity and Stability trials;
  • Assisting in processing and examining applications for Plant Variety Protection.

Persons Specification 

  • For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
  • Diploma in Agriculture, Biotechnology, Entomology, Crop protection, Applied Biology, Seed Science, Horticulture or its equivalent from an institution recognized in Kenya;
  • Meets the provisions of the Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.

  • Team player.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize work;
  • Demonstrated results in work performance
