Job Description

The University has a unique history that has evolved through different educational phases. It was started in April 1929 by a British Colonial farmer cum educationist by the name William Thomas Alfred Levet. The Institution was by then a whites’ only primary school with a large farm, which was sold to Guy Bullen in February 1959.

REMUNERATIVE PACKAGE FOR THE POSITION OF AN ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR – GRADE AC 14

  • Job Title : Associate Professor – Grade AC 14
  • Basic Salary: Kes. 180,337– Kes. 250,668 per month
  • Other Allowances: As provided for in the terms of service.
  • No. of Vacancies : One (1) for each Specified Area of Specialization
  • Terms of Service : Successful candidate will be offered the adjacent remuneration package on three (3) years’ contract renewable subject to satisfactory work performance.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Supervise and mentor both students and staff in their area of specialization/expertise.
  •  Lead research/innovation teams to extend knowledge in area of specialization/expertise.
  •  Provide strategic leadership in development of academic programmes and research activities in their area of specialization/expertise within the department.
  •  Be a member of the departmental and School academic board to provide leadership in their area of specialization/expertise.
  •  Departmental development: Teach and train in their area of specialization/expertise at the appropriate level.
  •  University development: Mentor and develop teaching programs and skills in their area of specialization/expertise.
  •  Research and innovation, solicit funding and develop research programs and teams in their area of specialization/expertise.
  •  Networking: Create networks with local regional and international organizations in their area of specialization/expertise.
  •  Academic publishing: conduct scholarly and academic publishing.
  •  Input into the department budget development in their area of specialization/expertise for departmental development.
  •  Identify and develop research/innovation products for income generation in their area of specialization
  •  Maintains accurate records of students’ attendance, assignments and continuous assessments for accountability and advising students on academic improvement strategy.
  •  Create linkages and partnerships.
  •  Develop research and academic programs.
  •  Management and administration of examinations and assessments.
  •  Offer career guidance and mentorship.
  •  Undertakes editorial and review tasks in academic journals, books and book chapters.
  •  Conducts internal moderation of exams.
  •  Leads academic seminars at departmental, school and inter-university levels.
  •  Organizes learned conferences, symposia and workshops in the area of specializations.
  •  Supervises both postgraduate and undergraduate research works.
  •  Undertakes placement and supervises students on industrial attachment, teaching practice and internship.
  •  Keeps prudent tabs on emerging developments in both research and teaching in the specific subject area.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT:

For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:

  • An earned Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent degree in the relevant field/specified specialization from an accredited and recognized university; and be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the University as a Senior Lecturer; or Senior
  • Researcher/Industry experience or equivalent.
  • A minimum of forty-eight (48) publication points as a Senior Lecturer or industry experience, of which at least thirty-two (32) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
  • Supervised at least four (4) postgraduate students to completion, including at least one (1) doctoral student.
  •  Attracted research or development funds as a Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow
  • Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable)
  • Shown ability to utilize Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) systems.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution of Kenya 2010.
