Summary

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Medical Insurance Underwriter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underwriting within an insurance brokerage firm, with at least five years of experience in the Kenyan insurance market. This role requires a keen eye for detail and an in-depth understanding of local insurance regulations and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate medical insurance applications to determine risk levels, coverage eligibility, and premium rates.
  • Policy Underwriting: Develop and implement underwriting guidelines, establish premiums, and set policy terms for individual and group medical insurance products.
  • Client Engagement: Work closely with insurance brokers to negotiate policy terms, ensuring client satisfaction while maintaining the company’s profitability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all underwriting activities comply with Kenyan insurance regulations and company policies.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize actuarial data and statistical tools to support underwriting decisions.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of underwriting decisions, client communications, and risk assessments.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams such as sales, claims, and customer service to achieve company objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in medical insurance underwriting, specifically within an insurance brokerage firm.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in insurance, finance, business, or a related field.
    • Must possess valid insurance certifications (e.g., AIIK, CIIK).
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
    • Deep knowledge of Kenyan medical insurance products and underwriting standards.
    • Proficiency in using underwriting software and analyzing actuarial data.
    • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
