Biomedical Engineering Coordinator, Nest 360, Department of Paediatrics

Position Summary

To ensure the effective management, maintenance, and performance of medical equipment in NEST360 supported hospitals through assessments, training, inventory management, and system improvements. This role includes supporting device uptime, mentoring biomedical engineers, managing BMET data systems, promoting quality improvement, and contributing to sustainable health technology practices.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Ensure complete cycle of health technology management.
  • Plan, dispatch, installation, and handover medical equipment as well as maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Ensure equipment uptime through timely provision of spares.
  • Foster institutionalized preventive and corrective maintenance (PPM&CM) through mentorship and training.
  • Conduct skills training sessions to biomedical engineers on NEST360 technologies, covering use, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Monitor and support the implementation of quality improvement action plans to ensure their achievement and long-term sustainability.
  • Work with other partners to integrate accessories, consumables, and spares (ACS) tracker into national systems.
  • Conducting monthly stock counts and reconciliation of equipment, ACS, and sharing the data with the country director. Support training and support on Health Facility Assessment (HFA) data collectors.
  • Provide detailed reports on technical activities to the program leadership whenever they are conducted.

Academic Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma in Biomedical Engineering from a recognized institution; OR Degree in Biomedical Engineering will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ continuous work experience in a clinical setting.
  • Valid registration with Association of Medical Engineering of Kenya (AMEK).
  • Certification in the Newborn ETAT+ provider course (GIC will be an added advantage).
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of HTM regulations, standards and policies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques.
