Job Description

Summary of the Role:

The Manager of resource Mobilization will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships among partners and donors, developing, and implementing strategies that successfully position Pathfinder International within Kenya, resulting in increased revenue for the organization. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual who is comfortable with proactive communications and outreach to potential donors. The ability to influence and advise through strong oral and written communication will be essential to success. This position will support the business development and fundraising lifecycle for generating funding to support the delivery of Pathfinder’s mission in the country. The Manager of resource Mobilization will work with partners, foundations, corporations, and governments to build and expand the country program portfolio revenue to deliver on Pathfinder’s mission and sustain strong country operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Resource Mobilization

  • Build a pipeline of Kenyan-based donors and pursue fundraising/revenue sources across government, corporate, foundation, individual, and other donors.
  • Develop an overall strategy for how funds will be sourced and develop proactive outreach strategies, in coordination with the country director and global BD team. The plan should include strategies to engage new donors (traditional and non-traditional).
  • Work with the technical and country team to identify gaps in the funding portfolio for our years and support the development of proactive concept papers that are marketable to donors
  • Assists in conceptualizing program activities for the country program portfolio. Liaises with institutional, private sector, and individual giving programs on building new donor relationships and generating new program opportunities.
  • Build and qualify a pipeline of Kenyan corporate and Individual Kenyan donors. Engage in and be responsible for all aspects of the donor development cycle donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgment, and stewardship.
  • Supports Country Director in donor engagement opportunities and visibility opportunities, including scheduling high-value meetings, logistics, donor briefs, pitch decks, and others as needed.

Visibility and Landscape Analysis

  • Develop local and global material to showcase Pathfinder’s project and country program impact to position Pathfinder for expanded work within the country and across the region. Coordinates with local and global communications to ensure that all stakeholders are kept current with information on Pathfinder’s programs and impact in the country and worldwide, through successful collaboration with global Communications.
  • Schedule high-value meetings and events in Kenya to grow Pathfinder’s name recognition and highlight the impact of our programs on key institutional and individual funding audiences.
  • Stays current on the competitive landscape and donor intelligence at the country level for Pathfinder’s sectoral interests. Evaluate comparative strengths and weaknesses and complementarities of organizations working in the region through a market analysis.
  • Stays abreast of Pathfinder programs and achievements and provides advice on engagement with local donor representatives, as well as assists with global donor communication in coordination with Global BD and the country director.
  • Build a detailed landscape of strategic local partners, assessing their comparative strengths and capacities for possible inclusion in the country program’s proposal and business development initiatives. Develops scopes of work and teaming agreements with local partners. Works with Global BD to evaluate roles and Scope of Work for global-level partners.
  • Maintains a resource library of positioning documents, including revising and updating capability statements, strategy documents, and others that can be shared with partners and donors as required.

Preferred Education and Work Experience:

  • Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, social sciences or a related field, or a combination of education and experience that yields the required competencies.
  • 10 years’ experience as a writer/editor, with record of writing successful USAID, private foundation, and other donor-funded proposals/applications.
  • Technical Writing: Advanced knowledge and application of technical writing principles and practices
  • Dissemination and Visibility: Advanced knowledge and skills in developing project dissemination strategies, including leveraging project dissemination opportunities for donor positioning.
  • Languages: Proven writing and speaking skills in English.
  • Proposal development: Advanced skills in proposal development from concept to full proposal.
  • Work experience with an NGO or similar organization in fundraising or marketing

Requirements

Required Job-Specific Competencies

  • Fundraising principles and practices: Knowledge of individual, corporate, and foundation fundraising, including standards and guidelines for writing proposals and managing overall corporate and foundation solicitation efforts.
  • Communications, marketing, and public relations: knowledge and experience in the creation of communications materials and coordination of communications events for the organization.
  • Networking: Ability to network and manage multiple complex pursuits.
  • Funding Sources: Knowledge of USG and non-USG donor agencies and their funding priorities and associated regulations.
  • Communication: Advanced oral and written communication skills using different forms of media.
  • Research and development: knowledge of current issues, and emerging funding trends in SRHR
  • Software applications: Advanced knowledge of MS PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Analysis and judgment: advanced analytical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to make sound decisions and work with teams to come to decisions.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English
  • Diplomatic skills: Ability to influence using diplomacy with key stakeholders. Advanced customer service skills.
  • Organization, Planning, and Multi-tasking: Advanced organization and planning skills, including project planning. Proven ability to coordinate complex activities with multiple actors. Comfortable working in a matrixed reporting structure.
  • Self-Management and Teamwork: the ability to lead and work within multi-skilled teams to achieve objectives. Ability to manage stress and learn new systems, processes, and procedures, while adapting to global standards.
  • Confidentiality: Proven ability to maintain confidentiality on work-related issues.
