Call for Proposal of Livelihood Support Fund

The Project

  • Search is implementing a 18-month project “Watha Nolasho- Dadaab Communities for Peace” funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (Ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères) that seeks to address the complex challenges faced by refugee and host communities in and around Hagadera refugee camp within Kenya’s Dadaab refugee complex. With over 300,000 refugees, mainly Somalis, Dadaab grapples with protracted displacement, limited economic opportunities, and tensions between refugees and host communities exacerbated by environmental pressures and security concerns. The project responds to these issues by promoting positive personal agency and collaboration across divides to improve social cohesion and economic empowerment.
  • The overall objective of this action is to promote community resilience to violent conflict among refugee and host communities in and around Hagadera, Dadaab.

Eligibility Criteria

  • To be eligible for this call, applicants are required to meet the eligibility requirements discussed below:
  • Initiatives should be ones that are crucial for economic growth. These should benefit both refugees and host communities and help address some of the causes of tensions/conflict.
  • The fund beneficiary must be a bona fide resident of Hagadera refugee camp
  • or Host community of Hagadera (Bore Hole 5).
  • Initiatives must be environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly initiatives.
  • Ensure that the proposed action complies with the objectives or mission of the applicant and contributes to the objectives of this project.
  • Be directly responsible for the preparation, management, and implementation of the project- not acting as an intermediary.
  • Defined Sustainability strategy of the action in community
  • Originality and innovation of activity/activities proposed

Organisational Requirements

  • The requirements for applying organizations to qualify for the small grants include:
  • Registration certificate: The organization must be legally registered as a non-profit, community-based organization, cooperative, business or similar entity.
  • Operational area: The organization must operate within the designated refugee and host community areas.
  • Experience: The organization should have a minimum of one year of experience in implementing community projects. The organization must demonstrate a track record of successful project implementation, particularly in areas related to economic empowerment, social cohesion, or community development
  • Financial management: The organization should have sound financial management practices, including the ability to manage and report on grant funds.
  • Partnerships: Preference may be given to organizations that have established partnerships with other local organizations, government agencies, or private sector entities.
  • The applicant must have ID/alien Card, KRA Pin, Tax Compliance, Certificate and Bank Account
