CARE International in Kenya is looking for qualified Kenyan nationals to fill the following position in our Refugee Assistance Program in the Dadaab Refugee Camp. 


Reporting to the Senior Gender Project Officer, the Gender Project Officer will be responsible for planning, implementation, supervision monitoring and documentation of all SGBV activities in Dagahaley camp. S/he will supervise Assistant Gender Project Officers and act as a camp supervisor for the project .The officer will have a close working relationship with other Gender Project officers with the Gender & Development Sector, Sector Coordinators, Programme Support Manager, and Program Manager .The position will also work closely other CARE sectors such as education, WASH and Program Support.


R1: Designing, Planning & implementation of anti- SGBV activities

  • Design & implement strategies that are geared towards preventing & responding S/GBV which are human rights violations
  • Attend to reported SGBV cases & clearly document referrals done & ensure follow-up of all cases reported
  • Develop an accurate database on GBV incidents & ensure data is shared with GCD supervisor and other sector staff on a monthly basis
  • Attend bi -monthly SGBV conferencing with other agencies such as UNHCR (protection), NCCK, GTZ & SAVE the Children (UK)
  • Attend the monthly SGBV coordination meetings and present SGBV camp report for the given month, action taken to assist the survivor and recommendations
  • In conjunction with Group Savings & Loans (GSL), initiate income generating activities that help alleviate suffering of S/GBV survivors to eradicate dependency syndrome

R2. Project Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Analyze, compile and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports within the set deadlines.
  • Assist in the development of project proposal, concept notes & sector publications
  • Regularly monitor FGC activities and provide feedback for adjustment of activities as needed.
  • Ensure that assigned projects achieve set goals, objectives and outcomes
  • Assist in midterm or end of project evaluations on FGC/M on project impact

R3 Managing of GBV-IMS

  • Ensure that SGBV case incidents are properly documented and recorded in the incident forms and transferred to the GBV-IMS
  • Ensure that all information documented is accurate and reflect interviews with SGBV clients
  • Ensure that all information collected and all annexes are kept in a confidential place. The GBV-IMS MUST be pass worded
  • Share monthly statistics and analysis to all stakeholders without revealing identity of the survivor.

R4:  Report writing & documentation 

  • Developing annual procurement plans and timely procurement of sector camp items.
  • Prepare and submit activity progress reports on weekly, monthly SGBV & monthly SITREPs
  • Keeping inventory of all items in the sector and NFIs distributed disaggregated by age gender
  • Assist in the preparation of GAD sector operation plans/work plans & reviews

R5: Staff Supervision

  • Assign tasks to Assistant project officer as per their job descriptions to ensure effective, efficient and timely implementation
  • Conduct regular meetings with CDWs and FGC Support Groups
  • Conduct regular block and home visits to assess and verify activities SGBV cases
  • Report on the performance of the FGC /SGBV CDWs to the Supervisor as planned
  • Regularly appraise FGC /SGBV CDWs.
  • Give CDWs counseling support and mentoring.


Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences

Experience: 3 years with proven working experience in sexual and gender based violence and related programs.

Certificate: Project Cycle Management


  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • Good project report writing skills
  • Competencies: Work experience in a refugee setting and ability to apply gender mainstreaming skills to development is an added advantage.
