Cash Officer – Meru Branch

Reports directly to the Branch Operations Manager. The Cash Officer is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day cash operations of the branch to ensure effective cash management, strong operational controls, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service. The role provides first-line supervision, coaching, and guidance to the teller team while supporting the Branch Operations Manager in safeguarding the Bank’s cash assets, maintaining operational integrity, and delivering efficient branch operations.

The incumbent will perform, amongst others, the below responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day branch cash operations, including vault management, teller cash, ATM cash replenishment, foreign currency cash, reconciliations, and cash balancing.
  • Support the Branch Operations Manager in maintaining optimal branch cash holdings by forecasting cash requirements, minimizing excess cash, and coordinating cash withdrawals, repatriations, and reserve cash movements with the Central Bank and Central Back Office.
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and coordinate the activities of tellers to ensure efficient service delivery, compliance with operational procedures, and adequate counter staffing at all times.
  • Monitor daily cash operations and ensure timely reconciliation of cash positions, suspense accounts, and operational entries, escalating unresolved exceptions to the Branch Operations Manager.
  • Investigate, resolve, and report cash shortages, surpluses, and operational discrepancies in accordance with the Bank’s policies and escalation procedures.
  • Oversee branch foreign exchange cash operations, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with approved exchange rates, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank’s policies and procedures, CBK Prudential Guidelines, the Banking Act, AML/CFT and KYC requirements, and other applicable regulatory and statutory obligations.
  • Maintain joint custody of vault cash and other designated assets in accordance with the Bank’s dualcontrol requirements and ensure the security of cash, negotiable instruments, and confidential customer information.
  • Oversee branch clearing activities, customer transaction validation, supporting documentation, and
  • customer callback controls to ensure accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
  • Ensure accurate recovery of all applicable fees, commissions, and service charges in accordance with the Bank’s approved tariff while supporting revenue assurance initiatives.
  • Support business growth by identifying customer needs, generating quality referrals, and promoting the
  • Bank’s products and services.
  • Promote a strong control environment by supporting branch security procedures, business continuity arrangements, health and safety requirements, and the implementation of audit and operational improvement recommendations.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Branch Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • A degree qualification from a recognized university
  • Diploma in AKIB (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years banking experience as a Teller & CSO
  • Cash Management skills
  • Excellent standard of oral and written skills
  • Well versed with KYC & AML compliance requirements, bank processes and products
  • Strong commitment to quality customer service
  • Good planning, co-ordination and time management skills
  • Be able to work in a team environment
  • Good standard of computer literacy
  • Ability to work under pressure and high volume workflow environment.
  • Honesty and reliability.
