Job Description

Avenue Hospital was founded in 1995 for the purpose of managing the outpatient department at the Hospital, and to extend medical services to corporate clientele through an innovative concept of Managed Healthcare.

Cath Lab Nurse

Job Objective/Purpose

Operate and monitor the sophisticated life support equipment used in Cath lab and demonstrate high level of expertise and sound scientific knowledge of current practices in Cath Lab. Work with cardiologists and other specialists to help in early identification and diagnosis of various medical conditions, and timely interventions

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents safety checks on Cath lab equipment that is defibrillator, diathermy, crash cart, IVUS/FFR and many more before procedures
  • Assemble all equipment required for a procedure and set the procedure trolley with appropriate medication and solution specific for each procedure.
  • Identify and Monitor life-threatening arrhythmias, manage acute MI patients for Primary PCI or thrombolysis, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout procedures.
  • Assist  in  procedures by scrubbing in,  anticipate operator’s next move and hand over necessary equipment required in a timely manner
  • Safely administer and effectively monitor patient sedation to moderate levels.
  • Participate in hospital code blue and skills development programs
  • Assist in complex interventions, such as Cardiac pacing, complex PCI’s, emergency intubation, administer inotropes and monitor patients post operative.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and relatives, participate in on-call teams for cardiac emergencies, and maintain professional development in accordance with relevant guidelines
  • Assists in positioning of the patient and responding to comfort and safety of patient during hospitalization while observing and enforcing strict standards of asepsis prior to, during and post operation.
  • To assist maintain appropriate stock levels in the Cath-lab Department at all times, proper Scheduling of Cath-lab bookings, participate on clinical audits on Quality improvement and Infection Prevention and Control

Person Specification

  • Valid BLS and ACLS Certification.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing/ Diploma in Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)
  • Higher Diploma qualification in Critical Care is preferred
  • At least 3 years working experience in Cath-lab post basic qualification
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Valid practicing license with the Nursing Council
