Chief Executive Officer

The Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer will provide the strategic, commercial and operational leadership of the National Infrastructure Fund and will be responsible for establishing the institution, implementing the strategy approved by the Board and delivering the Fund’s statutory mandate.

The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for building a commercially driven organisation capable of mobilising domestic and international capital, developing bankable investment opportunities, delivering sustainable financial returns and supporting Kenya’s long-term economic transformation.

Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Law or another relevant discipline from a recognised university.
  • A Master’s degree and/or relevant professional qualifications such as CFA, CPA, CA or equivalent will be an added advantage.
  • At least ten (10) years of relevant experience in investment management, private equity, infrastructure, project finance, investment banking, development finance or another related investment discipline.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience serving as a Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director, Chief Investment Officer or in another comparable senior executive leadership role with overall responsibility for strategy, operations, financial performance and organisational leadership.
  • Be a Member in good standing with a relevant professional body where applicable

Essential Experience

  • Applicants must demonstrate a proven track record of successfully managing the complete investment lifecycle and should provide evidence of having personally led or played a senior leadership role in:
  • Raising capital from institutional investors, development finance institutions, commercial lenders, capital markets, sovereign investors or strategic investors.
  • Investment origination, evaluation, structuring and execution of large and complex infrastructure projects.
  • Deploying capital into infrastructure projects, large-scale enterprises or other long-term strategic investments.
  • Leading the development of large scale infrastructure projects or large-scale enterprises from concept through feasibility, financing, implementation, operational stabilisation and value realisation.
  • Driving commercial development and value creation within portfolio companies or strategic investments.
  • Active portfolio management and performance optimisation.
  • Successfully exiting investments through trade sales, refinancing, public listings, strategic investors or other liquidity events.
  • Recycling capital into subsequent investment opportunities.
  • Applicants should demonstrate a successful track record of building, growing and successfully exiting investments or enterprises rather than experience limited to a single stage of the investment lifecycle.

Governance Experience
The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Practical experience working with Boards of Directors at executive level.
  • Experience serving as a member of one or more Boards of Directors of commercial, financial, public interest or regulated institutions.
  • A sound understanding of corporate governance, fiduciary responsibilities, board processes and board committee structures.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing governance within subsidiaries, portfolio companies, investment vehicles or special purpose entities.


Method of Application

Terms of Appointment The Chief Executive Officer shall be appointed by the Board of Directors in accordance with the provisions of the National Infrastructure Fund Act and shall serve on a fixed-term renewable contract, subject to satisfactory performance.   • Clearance from Kenya Revenue Authority (Tax Compliance Certificate) or its equivalent;
  • Clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Authority or its equivalent;
  • Clearance from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Current Certificate of Good Conduct) or its equivalent;f
  • Clearance from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) where required; and
  • Clearance from a registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) or its equivalent
