Job Description

Chief Financial Officer

Provide strategic financial leadership, protect company assets and support sustainable, profitable growth. Lead financial planning, reporting, treasury, commercial finance, risk management and financial compliance for Tropikal Brands Africa Limited. Provide structured finance oversight and support to sister company Tropikal Spaces Limited, ensuring reliable reporting, compliant operations and effective finance processes for each entity.

Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Planning

  • Partner with the Managing Director and departmental heads to develop financial plans, budgets and forecasts, advise management and the Board on performance, risks and growth opportunities, and evaluate investments, expansion and capital expenditure for profitability and returns.

Financial reporting and accounting

  • Lead financial reporting, management accounts, reconciliations, annual statements and external audits while ensuring accurate records and compliance.

Commercial finance and manufacturing performance

  • Manage product costing, profitability, production efficiency, inventory controls, and financial performance while advising Sales, Marketing, Production, and Procurement on pricing, margins, waste reduction, and cost optimization.

Treasury & Working Capital

  • Manage cash flow, credit control, working capital, supplier terms, and foreign exchange and interest rate exposures to optimise liquidity and minimise financial risk.

Tax statutory compliance and governance

  • Ensure timely tax compliance, statutory filings, eTIMS, audits, payroll remittances, and proper management of related-party transactions.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Ensure timely tax compliance, statutory filings, eTIMS, audits, payroll remittances, and proper management of related-party transactions.

Internal controls and risk management

  • Maintain financial controls, risk and fraud prevention, audit compliance, corrective actions, insurance, and business continuity.

Tropikal Spaces Finance Support

  • Provide finance oversight for Tropikal Spaces, ensuring accurate accounts, cash flow, reporting, tax compliance, intercompany reconciliations, controls, and timely finance support.

Finance systems and process improvement

  • Lead finance automation and systems improvements, ensuring accurate data, effective controls, reconciliations, and timely management reporting.

Investments transactions and team leadership

  • Support strategic transactions, lead and develop the finance team, assess financial risks, and support sustainability reporting and other duties assigned by the Managing Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related field.
  • A relevant master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • CPA(K), ACCA or an equivalent recognized professional accountancy qualification, with membership in good standing of the relevant professional body and compliance with applicable Kenyan professional requirements.
  • At least 10 years of progressive finance experience, including at least 5 years in senior finance leadership.
  • Strong manufacturing or FMCG experience, including costing, inventory and commercial finance, is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, Kenyan tax compliance, treasury, budgeting, audits and internal controls; experience supporting multiple legal entities is an advantage.
  • Strong sage x3 ERP, spreadsheet and financial modelling capability, with experience improving finance processes and management reporting.
