Job Description

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the UN agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

Responsibilities

The consultancy will involve the following typical main duties leading to the ultimate requested outputs:

Innovate4Cities Conference programme:

  • Speaker selection and management for Innovate4Cities conference
  • Ensure conference progamme is updated on the website
  • Abstract management: managing abstracts and post-collection processing and matching to sessions
  • Logistics: engaging with local suppliers and liasing with partners on the ground Support day-to-day
  • Knowledge product development: o Research on the interlinkages between the Innovate4Cities Conference and the IPCC Special Report on Cities and Climate Change o Draft the conferences outcomes report, in collaboration with the Global Covenant of Mayor
  • Design and coordination of 2030 Agenda Sub-Fund project meetings including outcome reports
  • Conducting project meetings including Kick-Off Meeting, monthly project calls and regular PMO meetings evidenced by presentation and minutes/report
  • Implementation of Capacity Building Strategy in project countries
  • Develop project capacity building strategy
  • Develop capacity needs assessment
  • Develop project training material
  • Conceptualize hybrid global workshop
  • Design and implementation of Stakeholder Engagement Strategy
  • Develop Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and implement Stakeholder Engagement Plan
  • Conduct stakeholder consultation meetings
  • Develop project communication material for dissemination

Qualifications/special skills

  • Minimum advanced university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in business administration, management, environmental management, economics, international development or relevant field is required.
  • A first degree with 2 additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in project management and stakeholder engagement, ideally gained at the international level is required of which working on urban climate change mitigation and/or adaptation.
  • Demonstrated experience in organising events and coordinating diverse stakeholders is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing projects in a participatory manner is an added advantage.
  • Experience working with international multi-partner initiatives and projects, demonstrating experience delivering outcomes with diverse set of partners and governments on climate projects and climate/urban policy is desirable.
