Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Refraction and basic vision management
  • Examining and diagnosing ocular diseases and disorders of the visual system and associated structures
  • Examine the eyes, conduct tests and use ophthalmoscopes, bio microscopes and other specialized instruments to determine ocular health and visual efficiency
  • Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses and assist in frame selections also recommend treatments such as exercises to correct vision or ocular disorders
  • Proper dispensing of spectacles after confirmation of prescription
  • Educate and advise patients on contact lens use and care, ocular hygiene, preventive care and maintenance, light arrangements working distances and other safety factors
  • Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other physicians and surgeons for treatment of ocular or other diseases or conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration
  • Assessing, planning, implementing optical intervention and evaluating patient outcomes and providing appropriate health care service
  • Regular prescribed maintenance of optical equipment
  • Address all optical related feedback and ensure client satisfaction is achieved
  • Properly document patient records in their respective files and registers; compile and submit of accurate reports
  • Development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures aimed at providing safe and quality healthcare to patients

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Optometry
  • Proficiency in computer application packages
  • Wide knowledge of the health industry

Experience

  • Over two (2) years’ experience in a similar role
  • Technical skills/Leadership competencies
  • Proven leadership, communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision
