Job Description

For two decades, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has been helping make the world safer from drugs, organized crime, corruption and terrorism. We are committed to achieving health, security and justice for all by tackling these threats and promoting peace and sustainable well-being as deterrents to them. Because the scale of these problems is often too great for states to confront alone, UNODC offers practical assistance and encourages transnational approaches to action. We do this in all regions of the world through our global programmes and network of field offices.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Support with the identification, review and documentation of human-interest stories and other relevant information for the purpose of effective communications;
  • Engage in outreach and communication efforts to promote and support various advocacy and communication campaigns and activities ;
  • Support with the coordination of communication related activities to ensure cohesive communication outputs;
  • Support writing, reviewing and updating social media content to raise visibility of the Programme’s work;
  • Perform other tasks as necessary.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for this internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

  • Basic knowledge of design and video editing tools like Adobe illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, PremierPro and Canva;
  • Interest in digital media and communications campaigns;
  • Excellent writing, editing and presentation skills. • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
  • Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)( preferably in the areas of Communication, Journalism, Marketing or equivalent).
