Job Description

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1961, working in the field of the wilderness preservation, and the reduction of humanity’s footprint on the environment. It was formerly named the World Wildlife Fund, which remains its official name in Canada and the United States.

JOB SUMMARY:

This role is instrumental in implementing WWF-Kenya’s communications and marketing Action Plan. This entails effectively cascading the Action Plan strategies to ensure their integration into our organization’s mission, programs, initiatives and the Coastal Kenya Programme’s communication plan. You will be at the forefront of our movement-building efforts, crafting captivating content that includes documentaries, web videos, picture stories, audio content, compelling written pieces, and infographics. This role is also instrumental in content development, transcribing our work and coaching our staff on public and media engagement in the Swahili language.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities however serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department and organization as a whole.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Programme Communications: Work closely with WWF-Kenya’s Communications function and Landscape teams to develop and implement the programme communications plan through strategic outreach, movement-building initiatives and campaigns within the landscape and seascape.
  • Marketing: help develop clear, engaging communication, marketing, and campaign strategies. Create multi-channel materials and collaborate with program, communication, and fundraising teams to integrate comprehensive content for resource mobilisation.
  • Videography and Photography: Work with communications, programme teams, and consultants to generate professional-grade, high-quality, targeted, and engaging audio-visual content and case study stories for various audiences and core channels.
  • Editing & Filing of Audio-Visual Content: Turn audiovisual content into cohesive videos or films by bringing sight and sound together to tell a compelling story. Further, maintain the CKP video/photography workflows and ensure all audio-visual content is filed and indexed in HIVE – The WWF Global Photo Library.
  • Content Development: Contribute to WWF-Kenya’s Case Study Story Bank enriching it with Swahili content while also supporting the implementation of WWF-Kenya’s digital strategy and ensuring that key programmatic documents such as impact and project factsheets are translated to and transcribed in the Kiswahili.
  • Media Liaison: Develop and maintain working relationships with journalists to enhance impact communications by planning and organizing media coverage, and disseminating content in different formats like press releases, marketing materials and other types of content that take the message to the public and for different platforms.
  • Events and Logistics: Coordinate event logistics in the Landscape and Seascape e.g. scheduling meetings, preparing presentations, gathering materials for conferences and workshops, planning a range of internal communications events, and supporting communication liaison for donor visits.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to assess the CKP communication plan effectiveness.

REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in communications and marketing or film and video production or related field.
  • Proven experience in communications and marketing roles.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital marketing tools
  • Exceptional proven proficiency in spoken and written Swahili and English
  • Photographer and videographer with the capability to lead filming projects and assemble complete production teams. Demonstrates a strong grasp of emerging technologies and digital platforms, including video live streaming.
  • Video Editing & filling of audio-visual content: expertise in the latest video editing tools, packages, software and systems, with experience in creating, repurposing, repackaging and filling compelling multimedia content.
  • Drone photography/ videography and graphic design skills are an added advantage
  • Experience working in a fast-paced media environment with a well-established network of national, regional, and international media contacts.
  • Excellent event management skills.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Internal communications skills: proven experience supporting internal communications plans and activities.
  • Good interpersonal skills: can liaise with staff at all levels and adhere to WWF-Kenya’s values, which are: Courage, Integrity, Respect and Collaboration.
  • Relevant certification in digital media or film & visual storytelling or membership in a Public Relations Society or media association is an added advantage.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Internal: Interacts frequently with WWF-Kenya’s communications teams, Coastal Kenya Programme staff, WWF Senior Management Team and Board members, WWF Network offices, technical leads, consultants and researchers.
  • External: Interacts frequently with Communities, Government ministries, departments and agencies, Civil Society Organizations, Private sector, Professional bodies, peer organisations, partners, development agencies, other NGOs, INGOs and donors.
