Job Description

Siasa Place is an NGO formed in 2015 that aims to create an enabling environment for youth mainstreaming into our body politic. Our vision is to influence people who normally shy away from politics and change their mindsets by highlighting the correlation between politics and day to day living. Additionally active citizenry participation, having an inclusive platform for people with the will to lead, educating on the functions of a leader and responsibilities of voters. Our mission is to inform and engage on how politics directly affects the society through relatable communications.

Communications Officer

Role Summary

  • The Communications Officer will lead the organization’s storytelling, digital engagement, and content production efforts. The role requires a creative and strategic communicator with a strong journalistic background, deep understanding of youth, governance, and digital trends, and the ability to translate complex civic issues into engaging, accessible content.
  • The officer will manage Siasa Place’s digital presence, produce multimedia content, and support programme visibility, particularly in areas related to digital democracy, youth participation, and information integrity. The officer direct reporting line will be the Program Manager – Politics, Tech & Rights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Development & Storytelling
    • Develop compelling stories, articles, blogs, and reports on governance, youth
    • participation, and digital democracy
    • Translate technical and policy issues into clear, engaging public-facing content
    • Document project activities, including field visits, Barazas, and stakeholder Engagements
  • Multimedia Production
    • Shoot and edit high-quality photos and videos for social media and reports
    • Produce short-form digital content (reels, TikToks, interviews, explainers)
    • Manage post-production editing using relevant tools
  • Social Media Management
    • Manage and grow Siasa Place’s social media platforms (Twitter/X, Instagram,
    • Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn)
    • Monitor trends, especially youth, governance, and political discourse online
    • Develop and implement content calendars and digital campaigns
  • Strategic Communications
    • Support visibility of programmes, partners, and donor-funded projects
    • Develop communication strategies for campaigns and initiatives
    • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all platforms
  • Design & Digital Content Creation
    • Create visual content using tools such as Canva, Adobe InDesign, and similar platforms
    • Design reports, briefs, presentations, and social media graphics
    • Ensure high-quality visual storytelling aligned with organisational branding
  • Facilitation & Engagement
    • Support facilitation of workshops, youth engagements, and community dialogues
    • Engage with youth audiences and stakeholders during events
    • Contribute to discussions on governance, digital participation, and social media trends

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or related field
  • Strong journalistic background with excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Experience managing social media platforms and digital campaigns
  • Proven ability to shoot and edit photo/video content
  • Experience in digital design (Canva, Adobe InDesign, or similar tools)
  • Understanding of youth engagement, governance issues, and digital trends in Kenya
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills
