Job Description

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Reporting to: Principal Investigator

Position Summary:

The position serves as the POC for all community-related activities and carries out community mobilization for current and upcoming research studies.

Job Specification:

The duties and responsibilities at this level will include the following:

  • Plan and execute community education and engagement that aim to create a researchliterate society.
  • Assist with organizing stakeholder engagement meetings to sensitize, update and give feedback on the research studies to the site’s stakeholders.
  • Survey and assessment of potential mobilization/recruitment sites.
  • Mobilization of the target population to participate in Research Studies.
  • Ensure that the right study population is reached in the community and assess the participant for enrollment as per the protocol requirements promptly.
  • Maintain and update participants’ contact information to ensure retention.
  • Distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials.
  • Compile and present reports required for different research protocols.
  • Promote other prevention activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participants.
  • Provide any necessary Psychosocial Support.
  • Reinforce adherence to study activities.

Person Specification Required

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-

  • At least four (4) years of relevant work experience;
  • Diploma in the following fields; Community Health and Development, Nutrition, Social work or relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • Proficiency in computer application;
  • Demonstrated work performance and results; and
  • Fulfil the requirement of Chapter Six of the constitution.

Terms of Employment:

  • One (1) year renewable contract.
  • Probation period for the first three (3) months
  • Remuneration: Salary is based on the KEMRI salary scale.
