Job Description

NairoBits Trust positively changes the lives of vulnerable youth by improving their ability to contribute to their socio-economic well-being through ICT. The Trust empowers marginalized youth between ages of 15 to 24 living in the Urban Informal Settlements. The Trust envisages a situation where 70% of the urban informal settlement youth can be able to access Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills that would improve their chances of getting employment as well as increase their ability to enter the business market. The Trust develops the youth’s character by inculcating critical elements of personal confidence, self-esteem, and general life skills.

Scope of the Assignment

The scope of the assignment is as follows:

  • Understand the RHRN Program (both global and the Kenyan Program), its work, programmes and administrative structures.
  • Map and use gender transformative and pleasure-based approaches to audit the various resources on CSE that Country partners have been using to provide CSE and information.
  • Prepare two versions of the Updated Kenya CSE Curriculum (13-17 and 18-25) following the recommendations from the Country partners resulting from the WSWM Localisation Workshop conducted in October 2022.
  • Facilitate a curriculum-validation forum with coalition partners and gather their recommendations on the next steps.
  • Finalize the localised curriculum and prepare the training manuals.
  • Prepare a dissemination schedule /guide for both versions of the curriculum.
  • Facilitation a dissemination workshop for the coalition in Kenya.
  • Handhold the RHRN Country partners during the implementation of the Updated WSWM
  • Curriculum for a mutually agreeable post-consultancy duration.

Deliverables

The following deliverables will be expected from the consultant;

  • Inception Report – At the beginning of the contract, presenting findings from the resources audit and preliminary recommendations for the planned next steps.
  • The World Starts With Me Curriculum – A robust updated curriculum, complete with contextualised training manuals, for the two age groups (13-17 and 18-25).
  • Proposed dissemination guide/schedule for both versions.

Timeline

  • This expected consultancy period is approximately 40 working days (2 months), and is envisioned to allow for co-working between the consultant(s) and the relevant staff at NairoBits Trust. Ideally, the consultancy work is expected to begin in mid-October 2023, with the final revised and updated WSWM manuals to be submitted by 1st December 2023.

Profile of the Consultant (Individual)

The Consultant should have the following desired minimum qualifications:

  • Education: A master’s degree in either Development or Gender studies, Education, Research, Sociology, or a related field with a bias to SRHR from a recognised institution of higher education/learning.
  • Experience: At least five years of progressive professional experience in SRHR information and education and comprehensive sexuality education, with proven experience in strategic communications, content writing and targeted messaging. Strong experience of the Kenya education system and government stances on CSE.
  • Versatility and Current: Ability to navigate, deploy and keep abreast with frontier AYSRHR communication, knowledge, trends, tools, etc.
  • Strategic Communication: Excellent track record of achievement in strategic communication implementation, including engagement with national and international partners and outlets and designing and executing advocacy campaigns with good knowledge of digital communication and/or information management principles.
  • Development Communication: Experience working with an NGO and the ability to curve a niche around development communication and associated terminology is desirable.
