Job Description

In its pilot phase in 2001, CDTD was known as Domestic Support Services, and initially served 5 girls from Kibera. Sensitive to the needs of Kenyan women, Ms. Murogo soon expanded her program and officially registered the Centre as an NGO in 2003. Since its registration, she has adopted numerous programs in order to best assist the disadvantaged. While the Domestic Workers program remains the focal point of the program, CDTD now houses a Literacy Program, Continued Education Program, Rescue and Rehabilitation Program, and Refugee Rehabilitation Program. In total, CDTD’s size has multiplied 600 times since its birth in 2001.More than 10,000 individuals have been transformed through CDTD’s work. Today the organization operates as a fully fledged NGO that addresses the welfare of domestic workers; both children and adults

Assignment Objectives:

It is on this background that CDTD is seeking the services of a qualified consultant or individual to support in the development of CDTD’s advocacy and lobbying strategy. Once developed, this advocacy and lobbying strategy will be implemented to enable CDTD to influence policies to advance and improve the lives of the target beneficiaries**.** The assignment will seek to strengthen the technical capacities of CDTD staff and affiliates with a focus on enhancing their analytic and methodological skills that are needed to support policy decisions, develop strategies, resource allocation plans, and conduct monitoring and evaluation.

Project deliverables:

In a bid to have the Gender Policy and other related tools developed and implemented, the consultant will be expected to;

  • Develop and deliver a CDTD advocacy and lobbying strategy.
  • Hold a meeting with CDTD staff and train them on the developed advocacy and lobbying strategy.
  • Produce a report on the training meeting held with the staff within 7 days of the training.

Duration and timelines:

  • The development of the advocacy and lobbying strategy is to take 5 days and the training for the staff 1 day. Total Consultation days are 6.

Consultancy Competencies, Experience and Skill Requirements

It is expected that a consultant will conduct this task with strong policy advocacy and lobbying capacity building background and expertise.

For this assignment, CDTD requires a consultant with expertise as follows:

  • Post graduate degree or equivalent in advocacy, international relations; development studies; social sciences or humanities.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in advocacy and Lobbying work.
  • At least 5 years of proven experience working with Women Rights Organizations, NGOs, INGOs, government agencies or other organizations on advocacy and lobbying-related issues.
  • Excellent advocacy, communication, analytical, planning and writing skills
  • Must be result-oriented, a team player, exhibiting high levels of enthusiasm, tact, diplomacy and integrity
  • Evidence of having undertaken similar assignments
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in advocacy-related work.
  • Strong facilitation and capacity development skills.
