Job Description

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Scope of Work:

The overall goal of the project is to create a technical toolkit and training materials showcasing international best practices on transforming administrative data into statistical data with special reference to data integration, interoperability, and linking different kinds of data bases.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Inception report that contains a literature review, findings of an assessment of current practices and needs of NSOs in the region. The inception report should describe the process and methods that will be used for developing the toolkit and training materials;
  • One toolkit consisting of 30-50 pages and covering data integration, interoperability and linking different data sets within the context of transforming administrative data into statistical data. It should include practical examples from countries in the region and should be compiled as a collection of best practices and practical ‘Ideas and Tips’ of how to achieve data integration, increased interoperability and effectively link different kinds of data;
  • Develop training materials based on the toolkit;
  • Facilitate two country level capacity building workshops to test and use the materials.

  • Excellent writing skills.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree in statistics, economics, development studies or related field;
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years experience in working in the field of interoperability and data linkages;
  • Experience in working with National Statistics Office;
  • Experience in working in Africa with Government data systems;
  • Experience in developing capacity building and training materials.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset
