Job Description

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. With 165 member states, a further 8 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement.

Core Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling date and time of biometric appointment of relevant refugee applicants in coordination with USCIS.
  • Registration and subsequent capture of biometrics for relevant refugee applicants.
  • Preparation of statistics and reports for the Deputy Head of Operations on relevant activities.
  • Preparation and submission of daily reports related to biometrics capture on behalf of USCIS, as well as all other issues associated with biometrics capture.
  • Undergo training on use of biometric equipment.
  • Undergo duty travel to Dadaab Refugee Complex, Botswana, and Djibouti to perform biometrics capture services, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education/Experience

  • Seven years of working experience with secondary education; OR five years of working experience with bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in delivering on set objectives in hardship situations preferred.

Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to work independently.

  • Excellent computer skills – MS Office Internet.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize.

Travel

  • The assignment will take place in three countries – Kenya, Botswana, and Djibouti.

Languages

  • For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
  • Somali and/or Swahili language ability preferred.

Notes:

  • Only US [CP1] citizens will be eligible for consideration.
  • Appointment will be subject to US government security clearance, medical clearance, and relevant security training certification.
  • Most of the work will be undertaken in Dadaab Refugee Complex in Kenya, which is classified as a Category E duty station, indicating extremely difficult living and working arrangements.
