Job Description

AAR hospital is a 140-bed Level 5 private referral hospital that boasts a symphony of healing spaces that rejuvenates the soul, Nestled adjacent to the lush green canopy of Karura Forest along Kiambu Road. The Outpatient Department deliberately separated from the Emergency Unit welcomes you the ambience and beauty synonymous with AAR Hospital. This unit serves all non-urgent walk-in patients in need of care by a General Practitioner or a Specialist Doctor in any of our 20 Specialist Clinics. The Emergency Unit serves those in critical condition in need of immediate and specialized care. You can access 24 hours dialysis services and critical care consists of a fully equipped intensive care unit (ICU) with 12 beds supported by a 9-bed high dependency unit (HDU) and a 5 cot neo-natal unit (NICU). These are supported by four operating theater rooms, surgical and medical ward, Obstetrics (Maternity), Gynaecology and Paediatric wards to round up the ward complement. Within each ward, the rooms are divided into a single bed, 2-bed, 3-beds, and the largest 4-bed units all ensuite. The design of the wards ensures the dignity and privacy of the patients even in our “general four bed-rooms”. Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist

Job Purpose:

The overall purpose of this job is to manage patients at the hospital requiring obstetrics and gynecology care outpatient and inpatient departments, to ensure delivery of quality and safe services to all disciplines where obstetrics and gynecology care is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance- Participates in the development and implementation of quality assessment plans and ensuring continuous improvement of the obstetrics and gynaecology department services. Ensure appropriate documentation is completed and maintained.
  • Carry out patient assessment, treatment and stabilization and other specialized procedures in order to provide curative services in line with established protocols and promote patient centricity including providing clinical support during emergencies including resuscitation, admission, discharge or referral to the appropriate consultants and units where obstetrics and gynaecology department services are required.
  • Contribute to the departmental clinical quality assurance system, including regular clinical audit, review of patient care (length of patient stay, mortality and morbidity reviews, audit, regular clinical meetings) to ensure quality to services provided to patients.
  • Research and Development- Actively involved in a wide range of research and development initiative areas and create awareness of the hospital as having research programs that are at the forefront of science in patient care.
  • Oversight of quality and patient safety by assisting in planning and setting priorities for obstetrics and gynaecology department through quality improvement and patient safety activities and reviewing clinical related patient complaints and ensure a satisfactory resolution thereof with proper corrective and preventive action.
  • Work with the established consultants to ensure equitable provision of obstetrics and gynaecology department across the whole of the hospital. This will include collaborative working, mutual cover for leave, and ensuring adherence to principles of clinical governance.
  • Learning and Development – Support learning and development initiatives by identifying skill gaps and providing learning and development opportunities for the medical and nursing staff. Plan and direct research and development appropriate to the facility.

Qualifications

Education 

  • Master of Medicine in obstetrics and gynaecology from a recognized institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Bachelors in Surgery.
  • Must have valid membership and hold a valid practicing license in the relevant field from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

Experience 

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position.
