Job Description

Overall Job Function

Reporting to the Strategic Information Lead, the Continuous Quality Improvement Officer will closely work with the program technical staff to effectively develop, implement, document, evaluate and report Quality Improvement (QI) activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the establishment of QI teams at facility level including QI technical working groups
  • Provide mentorship to QI focal persons to enhance their capacities to support strong facility QI teams through training on Kenya Quality Model for Health (KQMH) and Kenya HIV Quality Improvement Framework (KHQIF)
  • Review reported QI activities routinely and provide technical support on Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) models for health care delivery improvement including use of Plan Do Study and Act improvement methods
  • Work with the program teams and health facilities to apply QI approaches to routine facility practices to bridge performance gaps
  • In collaboration with Sub County and County teams, mentor facility CQI teams to capacity strengthen them to conduct CQI activities
  • Coordinate documentation of QI projects for dissemination and sharing of best practices
  • Assist the supported facility CQI teams to abstract data after every improvement cycle; analyse the findings and recommend subsequent measures necessary to achieve the set objectives

  • Enhance the adoption of the CQI dashboards and online CQI platform for robust monitoring of health indicators
  • Review monthly/quarterly reports from supported health facilities and sites, and provide immediate technical guidance and recommendations related to tracked indicators and outcomes
  • Assist with the design and oversight of learning sessions to facilitate the scale up of QI projects
  • Work with the program teams to establish performance-monitoring system for tracking priority QI indicators
  • Actively participate in compilation and submission of periodic performance and progress reports
  • Oversee documentation, flag indicators that need improvement,  and discuss with team and guide initiation of QI initiatives
  • Perform any other lawful duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Person Specifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a health related field
  • A Master’s degree will be an added advantage
  • At least five years’ experience in the public health sector and QI work experience
  • Knowledge of CQI principles, practices, methods, and tools
  • Ability to analyse QI data and identify trends and corrective actions
  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in implementation of QI interventions in the context of donor funded projects and management of QI data and databases
  • Experience in data management and analysis, specifically in the area of public health/healthcare
  • Good facilitation, writing and decision making skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, report writing and presentation skills.
