Cook

Kisumu Specialists Hospital invites applications from qualified, experienced, and passionate individuals to fill the position of Cook.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook balanced, nutritious meals for patients, staff, and visitors according to daily menus and dietary requirements.
  • Follow standardized recipes and portion control guidelines to maintain consistency and reduce wastage.
  • Collaborate with nutritionists or dieticians to prepare meals that meet specific dietary restrictions.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and rotation of food to prevent spoilage and contamination.
  • Assist in receiving, checking, and storing deliveries to ensure quality and safety.
  • Coordinate with fellow cooks, kitchen assistants, nutritionists, and other staff to ensure smooth meal service.
  • Assist in serving food in patient wards, staff canteen, or designated service areas.
  • Adhere to all relevant hospital policies, safety standards, and statutory food regulations.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • At least 3 years of work experience as a cook, preferably in a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Certificate in Food Production or related field from a recognized institution.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements and ability to prepare nutritious, balanced meals tailored to patients and staff.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene standards, and infection control measures in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with nutritionists, nurses, and other staff.
  • Flexibility to work on shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  • Commitment to patient-centered service and professionalism.
  • Terms of Engagement: 2-year contract, renewable
