Job Description

Amnesty Kenya was founded in 2002 and operates with specific goals and objectives for improving lives and upholding human rights for the citizens of Kenya and the surrounding areas. These initiatives include, but are not limited to: Right to Adequate Housing and Safety in Impoverished Neighborhoods Sexual and Gender Based Violence Education on Improving Relations Between Law Enforcement and Residents Growth and Human Rights Education Active Involvement of Youth for a Better Tomorrow Amnesty Kenya operates independently of any government, political ideology or religion and we are funded mainly by our membership and public donations. JOB PURPOSE

As part of your role, you will coordinate the administration, logistics and community management of the Global Children and Youth Team’s activities and assist in the planning, budgeting, and monitoring and learning of the team. You will also contribute to realising Amnesty’s Global Children and Youth Strategy and the Botnar project on Children and Young People’s Digital Rights, Health, and Wellbeing.

ABOUT YOU

As a Coordinator in the Global Children and Youth Team at Amnesty International you will have experience in human rights with awareness of accessibility and inclusion in event planning. Ideally you will also have a working knowledge of Spanish, French or Arabic, however this is not essential to the role.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee application of financial procedures and carry out budgetary control tasks, including budget forecasts, processing and monitoring of expenditure, monitoring of monthly financial reports.
  • Coordinate logistics of virtual and face to face events (workshops, trainings, webinars, conferences etc.), including interpretation, travel and venue arrangements. This can include supporting children and youth activists travelling to key global events.
  • Support all aspects of contract management of consultants and suppliers in line IS procurement processes as part of the delivery of the Global Children and Youth Team’s work.
  • Coordinate content gathering for regular newsletters featuring impact stories across Amnesty International as well as resources and opportunities for youth activists.
  • Support data gathering process for annual reporting and externally funded projects.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in organising virtual and face to face internal and external meetings, including collaborating with external suppliers and venue hosts
  • Experience in booking complex travel arrangements – flight booking; visas; travel itinerary.
  • Good attention to detail and experience in preparing and monitoring budgets and an ability to identify budget problems and solve them, including knowledge of finance systems used for processing of expenditure.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team, coordinating work with colleagues and providing when required, including to negotiate solutions and resources between programmes and project team members.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and convening skills in English.
