Job Description

Embu County Profile Embu County Government headed by H.E Governor Martin Wambora is one of the 47 counties in Kenya which came into operation after the March 4 2013 General Election. As an entity exercising constitutional authority, it is responsible for county legislation (outlined in article 185 of the Constitution of Kenya), executive functions (outlined in article 183), functions outlined in the fourth schedule of the constitution of Kenya, functions transferred from the national government through article 187 of the constitution of Kenya, functions agreed upon with other counties under article 189(2) of the constitution of Kenya, and establishment and staffing of a public service (under article 235 of the Constitution of Kenya).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Shall be the Principal assistant to the County Attorney in execution of functions of the office;
  • Shall deputize the office of the Attorney in organizing, coordinating and managing administrative and legal functions of the office.
  • Responsible for formulating and ensuring implementation of the development of strategies for the county government legal services.
  • Shall deputize the office of the Attorney in drafting, amending and publication of legislative proposals for the county government.
  • Represent the County Government in Court, Tribunals, Commission of inquiry and any other legal proceedings which the County is a party or has interest, other than criminal proceedings and perform any other function conferred on in by law.
  • Undertaking legal research and sound advisory on legal matters to the County Government.
  • Performing any other duty as may be assigned.

Requirements for Appointment

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen;
  • Has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized University and a Postgraduate
  • Diploma from the Kenya School of Law and Council for Legal Education.
  • Is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya of not less than five (5) years post Bar- admission.
  • Has not less than five (5) years administrative experience.
  • Master’s Degree in law will be an added advantage.
  • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
  • Has Knowledge in records of relevant laws and professional standards.
  • Proficiency in Computer applications.
  • Has a valid practicing license.
  • Has published refereed legal journals.
