Job Description

Geminia Insurance Company Limited is a fully local-owned insurance company providing innovative products and services in general insurance. The company has a strong heritage dating back to 1981 when it started its operations.

Database Administrator

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  1. To drive operational efficiency through the unified management and optimization of the organization’s data.
  2. To strengthen system reliability, resilience, and disaster recovery capabilities.
  3. To minimize system downtime and data loss through proactive monitoring, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  4. To ensure routine database patching and maintenance are conducted in line with best practices and security requirements.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Install, configure, and maintain database management systems
  2. Monitor database performance, optimize queries, and ensure high availability.
  3. Perform regular backups, restores, and disaster recovery drills.
  4. Implement and enforce database security policies to protect sensitive data
  5. Design and implement database schemas, tables, indexes, and stored procedures.
  6. Optimize database performance through indexing, partitioning, and query tuning.
  7. Manage database replication and high-availability configurations
  8. Ensure data integrity through validation, constraints, and regular data cleansing.
  9. Monitor and resolve data inconsistencies or corruption issues.
  10. Implement data archiving and purging strategies.
  11. Provide technical support to developers and end-users for database-related issues.
  12. Conduct training sessions for staff on database best practices
  13. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of database configurations, processes, and policies.
  14. Generate regular reports on database performance.
  15. Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and business analysts to support database needs.
  16. Stay updated with emerging database technologies and propose innovative solutions.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Academic Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or equivalent

Professional Qualification

  1. Certified database administrator with in-depth understanding of Oracle (OCP preferred), MS SQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases.

Experience

  1. At least 5 years’ experience in database administration with strong technical knowledge of databases, WebLogic, networks, and operating systems.
