Job Description

Tenwek Hospital is a Christian community committed to excellence in compassionate healthcare, spiritual ministry, and training for service to the glory of God.” The hospital was founded in 1937 by missionaries from World Gospel Mission and has since grown to be a leading teaching and referral hospital in the region and one of the largest mission hospitals in Africa. It is a non-profit faith-based organization, a ministry of Africa Gospel Church and in partnership with World Gospel Mission.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director Medical Services through the Head of Clinical Services, the Dental Officer exists to provide dental services to patients in the hospital; ensure provision of quality and timely dental services, quality patient care and dental counselling at Tenwek Hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct dental outpatient clinics in line with the hospital schedules and attend to both walkin and referred patients.
  • Attend to all patients who require dentist’s review within hospital standard operating procedures, national and international guidelines.
  • Be available for dental emergencies in the occasion that they occur. The Dental Officer in
  • Charge will come up with a coverage schedule for the same.
  • Accurate and clear documentation of patient history, physical examination, investigations, and management.
  • Provide clarity of investigations to be carried out and interpretation of the results and ensure update to the patients and the next of kin.
  • Facilitate patient admissions, necessary consents, and discharges.
  • Counsel clients on treatment and compliance to treatment (patient and family) while ensuring their participation in decision making in their management.
  • Carry out procedures and surgical interventions as per authorized/licensed privileges while ensuring high quality of care/services and safety of patients.
  • Conduct family conferences in line with hospital standard operating procedures Participate in grand rounds, morbidity, mortality audits and meetings, and professional educational activities.
  • Participation in incident reporting, root cause analysis and Quality Improvement Plan
  • Participate in the continuous review and improvement of departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Facilitate Continuous Medical Education, mentorship, and skills training to colleagues.
  • Acquiring new skills on best practices and proactively facilitate implementation.
  • Maintain a positive work attitude and foster teamwork.
  • Always maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Ensure patient satisfaction through quality of care, communication, feedback, and escalation and demonstrate follow-up and improvement.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time as elaborated by the Director of Medical
  • Services or designate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Surgery from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council and hold a valid practicing license.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.
