Job Description

Machakos County, nicknamed ‘Macha,ā€™ was the first capital city of Kenya and is now an administrative county in Kenya. Machakos is made up of eight (8) constituencies including Machakos Town, Mavoko, Masinga, Yatta, Kangundo, Kathiani, Matungulu, and Mwala. Machakos Town is the administrative capital of the County.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enforcing relevant provisions of various statutes relating to valuation;
  • Developing and reviewing the National Land Value Index;
  • Undertaking Stamp Duty valuations;
  • Undertaking investigations on valuation disputes and appeals;
  • Generating, collecting and remitting revenue from valuation services;
  • Preparing valuation case briefs and responses to County assembly issues;
  • Attending courts and tribunals on valuation matters;
  • Coordinating valuation of assets for Departments in the County;
  • Coordinating assessment of ground rent during sub-divisions, alienations, change of users and extension of leases;
  • Preparing research proposals on emerging valuation trends and issues;
  • Preparing reports on the impact of infrastructural projects on land values;
  • Representing the public sector Valuers in the Valuers and Estate Agents Registration Boards coaching and mentoring of staff

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: –

  • A minimum experience of fifteen (15) years in this field.
  • Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines: Land Economics, Real Estate and Property Studies or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Masters degree in any of the following disciplines: Property Valuation, Estate Management. Property Studies, Real Estate or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Membership to the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), Valuation and Estate Management Surveyors Chapter;
  • Be registered by the Valuers Registration Board;
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution;
  • A certificate in strategic leadership development programme (SLDP) Lasting not less than six weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage
