Job Description

The Kenya National Examinations Council (also referred to as KNEC or the Council) was established in 1980 under the Kenya National Examinations Council Act Cap 225A of the Laws of Kenya. This Act (Cap 225A of 1980) was repealed in 2012 and replaced with KNEC Act No. 29 of 2012.

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail:

  • Conducting research in educational assessment and monitoring learner’s achievement;
  • Coordinating the conduct and participation in educational conferences;
  • Coordinating collaborations and partnerships with other examinations/assessment bodies or organizations and individuals interested in collaboration with KNEC;
  • Collaborating with other organizations/agencies/stakeholders on educational research initiatives;
  • Coordinating training in educational assessment;
  • Coordinating Innovation and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights;
  • Coordinating knowledge management;
  • Undertaking sales and marketing of KNEC services and products;
  • Managing the KNEC Educational Assessment Resource center;
  • Coordinating the development of capacity building course content;
  • Identifying resource personnel for capacity building courses;
  • Coordinating the sales and marketing of assessment products and services;
  • Overseeing the preparation of annual work plans and budgets;
  • Proposing training and development interventions for the staff in the Department;
  • Coordinating the implementation of the performance management system in the department.

Person Specification

For appointment to this position, an officer must have:

  • At least twelve (12) years of cumulative relevant work experience, five (5) of which should have served at management level;
  • Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Education, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Planning, Project Management, Research or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Education, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Demonstrated merit in work performance;
  • Membership to a professional body;
  • Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya only for the successful applicants.
