Job Description

The Kenya National Examinations Council (also referred to as KNEC or the Council) was established in 1980 under the Kenya National Examinations Council Act Cap 225A of the Laws of Kenya. This Act (Cap 225A of 1980) was repealed in 2012 and replaced with KNEC Act No. 29 of 2012.

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail:

  • Aligning syllabuses to assessments;
  • Developing assessment regulations and guidelines;
  • Training and recruiting setters and moderators;
  • Preparation of assessment timetables;
  • Coordinating development of assessment tools/papers;
  • Analyzing assessment test items/papers and preparing feedback reports;
  • Conducting performance appraisal of officers in the department;
  • Capacity building of teacher trainers in assessment;
  • Coordinating pre-testing of test items;
  • Preparing and implementing approved departmental work plan, procurement plan, and budget;
  • Coordinating validation of marking schemes during marking;
  • Developing and implementing effective risk management strategies;
  • Chairing Course and awards Panel meetings;
  • Ensuring security and confidentiality of all examination/assessment materials;
  • Advising the Director, Test Development on any issues relating to test development.

Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • At least twelve (12) years cumulative relevant work experience, five (5) of which should have served at a management level;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education from a recognized institution OR Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from a recognized institution;
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution;
  • Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Demonstrated competence and merit in work performance;
  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution only for the successful applicants.
