Development Associate, Institutional Funding

 The Development Associate, Institutional Funding reports to the Senior Director of Institutional Funding and works closely with all members of the Institutional Funding Unit. The Associate provides day-to-day support while also managing grants processing, information storage, scheduling support, and other administration work as needed.

This position will be based in Nairobi in a hybrid model of three days working in-office, 2 days working from home.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the managers of the Institutional Funding Unit to support the opportunity generation and proposal process, including preparing required documentation for a proposal and setting up internal processes/sites for the proposal process and keeping the team on track of deadlines.
  • Administrate all grant processing for the Institutional Funding Unit, including working closely with Finance/Accounting and Development operations to ensure grants are tracked in the donor database and Sharepoint, and facilitating contract negotiation and signature.
  • Provide administration support across the Institutional Funding team, including helping with scheduling, meeting agenda and notes, logistics support, and other administrative duties as needed.
  • Draft briefing notes (in advance of planned meetings), correspondence, and other documents to support institutional funding managers donor relations activities
  • Help to manage the donor database including but not limited to logging updates and tracking activities and deadlines
  • With the Senior Director, Institutional Partnerships, support the maintenance of the global funding pipeline
  • Maintain records of the Center’s relationships and engagement with the global funding audience, including bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies as well as other defined strategic allies, in Raiser’s Edge and SharePoint.
  • Participates in Proposal Development by providing researched content, creating, and drafting proposal guidelines and attachments or as is guided by superior.
  • Provide other administrative support to the Institutional Funding Unit
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Ability to see and understand the big picture and translate into strategic processes;
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and verbal communications skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with Raiser’s Edge preferred;
  • High level of discretion and sensitivity to donor confidentiality issues;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with capacity to receive and accept constructive feedback, take initiative and be pro-active, and demonstrate solid problem-solving skills;
  • English language fluency required; additional languages, especially Spanish, a plus; and
  • Strong commitment to the Center’s mission, purpose, and values.
