About the role

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager – DevOps, this role will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

You are required to have prior experience in Software Development and DevOps. You will collaborate closely with solution architects, engineering team, project managers and infrastructure team to launch new features/applications and drive enhancements to existing products.

Responsibilities | What you’ll do

You will be a part of our new DevOps team bringing a wealth of experience building and scaling services in a cloud environment. In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the deployment, configuration, and monitoring of software releases to various environments
  • Supporting the automation and management of infrastructure and application configurations using tools like helm and terraform.
  • Collaborating with development teams to implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including build automation, testing, and deployment.
  • Assisting in setting up and maintaining monitoring tools to ensure system health and reliability. Responding to and troubleshooting incidents or alerts.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams (developers, infrastructure engineers, testers) to facilitate effective collaboration
  • Assisting in identifying and resolving issues related to infrastructure, deployments, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Actively participating in team meetings, providing insights, suggestions, and ideas for improving processes and infrastructure.

Requirements | What we are looking for

  • 2+ years in software development and at least 1-2 years of experience in CI/CD or DevOps engineering.
  • BSc. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Being proficient in at least one scripting language like Python, Ruby, or Bash is essential. Understanding of other programming languages like Java, C++, or Go can also be beneficial.
  • Experience working with Linux or Unix-based operating systems, including system administration tasks and basic command-line operations.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Experience with deploying and managing applications on these platforms would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD concepts and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD and understanding how to automate building, testing, and deploying software.
  • Experience working with containerization technologies like Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency in using version control systems like Git for source code management, branching, and merging.
  • Basic understanding of monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana
  • Good teamwork and communication abilities are essential in a DevOps role, as it involves working closely with development, operations, and other teams.
