Job Description

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the world’s environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the environment.

Responsibilities

  • The digital coordinators will focus on facilitating translation work, quality control for unep.org, related websites and other digital products.

Under the supervision of the Chief of Digital Strategy, the consultants will perform the following duties:

  • Liaise with UNEP’s Communication Division, communicators outside the Division, and web focal points to post multilingual content on unep.org and related websites.
  • Ensure that web copy for UNEP and related websites accurately reflect UNEP’s policy positions, advocacy goals, and broader UN messaging.
  • Coordinate work of translation team for the UN Environment Assembly and other key events.

Qualifications/special skills

  • A master’s degree in journalism, communication, international relations, social sciences or other related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the master’s degree.”
  • A Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, publishing, public information, communication, information studies, or related field is required Demonstrated experience editing content for web sites. Knowledge of environmental issues is desirable

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and spoken English is required; knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
