Job Description

Kwale County is located in south coast of Kenya.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail;

  • Implementing Fisheries policies, programmes and strategies;
  • Evaluating, monitoring, control and surveillance systems;
  • Monitoring the implementation of regional and international fisheries agreements;
  • Coordinating the strengthening of fisheries extension services;
  • Promoting co-operation between the fisheries sector and local/ international stakeholders;
  • Implementation of multilateral projects and programmes.;
  • Undertaking cost effective research to advance national and sectoral priorities;
  • Promoting fish marketing and value addition;
  • Harmonizing fisheries technical trainings in liaison with relevant institutions; undertaking and
  • Monitoring and evaluation activities in the division

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT

  • Served in the grade of Senior Assistant Director of Fisheries or a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for at least three [3] years;
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields:- Fisheries , Zoology, Aquatic Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, Physical Science, Chemistry or any other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution
  • Master’s degree in any of the following fields is an added advantage; Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, Physical Science, Chemistry or any other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
  • Shown competence in planning and implementation of development, management and research of fisheries projects and programmes;
  • Have certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution
  • Have knowledge of the fisheries policies, fisheries Act and other related statues;
  • Be conversant with national and international fisheries agreements, conventions, protocols and laws of the seas; and
  • Have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
