Job Description

The Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Board (herein after referred to as “the Board”) is a semi autonomous government agency that was established in December 2013 following the enactment of the Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Act, 2011. It is in the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs.

Vacancy No. AFGM/1/2023 (1post)- Contract basis

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the development and implementation of Anti-FGM guidelines and strategies;
  • Overseeing the designing, planning, implementation and review of Anti-FGM education and awareness programmes;
  • Spearheading identification and engagement of relevant partners and stakeholders for prioritization of Anti-FGM issues;
  • Ensuring mapping out Anti-FGM priority areas in collaboration with stakeholders;
  • Spearheading the sensitization of communities and public on the adverse effects, emerging trends, and human rights violations related to female genital mutilation;
  • Facilitating the involvement of media in anti-female genital mutilation campaigns;
  • Overseeing the coordination, design and piloting of female genital mutilation survey tools;
  • Facilitating fora for anti- female genital mutilation awareness creation;
  • Spearheading capacity building of stakeholders to manage and respond to female genital mutilation issues;
  • Overseeing community-driven dialogues on female genital mutilation issues;
  • Spearheading provision of support services to survivors of female genital mutilation;
  • Overseeing local and international organizations advocating against female genital mutilation;
  • Ensuring development of information, education and communication materials on female genital mutilation;
  • Overseeing dissemination of information on female genital mutilation;
  • Overseeing the monitoring and evaluation implementation of anti-female genital mutilation programmes;
  • Spearheading the development of alternative rites of passage curriculum and coordination of programmes; and
  • Disseminating anti-female genital mutilation education and awareness reports.

Requirements for Appointment

  • Fifteen (15) years cumulative experience, four (4) of which should have been at Deputy Director, Programmes or a comparable position in a reputable organization;
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Sociology, Anthropology, Education; Gender Studies, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Public Policy, Strategic Management or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Sociology, Anthropology, Education; Gender Studies, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Public Policy, Strategic Management or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Demonstrated outstanding professional competence as reflected in work performance.
